your brother is right. its really thick extra fertilized special super grass and when the mower chomps it down its moved in good straight lines back and forth so the grass bends.
it looks really good too.

Your brother’s right – the blades of grass in the lighter stripes are tilted away from you (so you see more of the length of the blade), the darker ones towards you (so you see all the ends of the blades). If they were different heights, the ball would bobble over the outfield.
They do the same for many different sports played on grass – cricket, rugby, rugby league, soccer…
PS It does mess up a little by the end of the game, but not too noticeably – rugby and league are much tougher on the grass than baseball, but the pattern is still visible!
The miracle of mowing in different ways.
Rene nailed it. It is the way its mowed. Because they use reel type mowers which shear the grass off and bends it in one direction. So as they go back and forth the grass is bent in opposite directions each pass leaving a stripped pattern.
you mow it one way at one height then an opposite direction with a different height. most use a mower that cuts the grass low like on a golf course.
They use a roller behind the mower. That makes the grass lay one way or the other
The same way the get the white lines on the field…those aren’t mowed. The real question is how do they get the yellow lines on the football field?
MLB teams use REEL MOWERS. The kind you find on golf courses. The light stripes on mowed away from you and the darker stripes are facing you. In order to get the stripes, you need to mow the same direction every other day.
Rollers.
On the back of industrial riding mowers there is a roller. The mower simply goes up and down the field. The way the rollers bend the grass based on your position determines how you see the grass. Grass bent toward you will appear darker than the grass bent away from you.
Well you are both right. Different grounds crews do it differently. I have found the easiest to be the direction you mow it in.
They mow in opposite directions with rollers attached to the mowers to give it that effect.
it’s done when the grass is first put in,they use 2 different
types of grass.one line of grass is kentucky blue grass
the second type louisiana snap grass. when the grass
is rolled in the outfield it goes like this 1 kentucky,1 snap
grass that’s it. it’s all cut the same length so no 1 trips.

on the lawn mower there is a tube that is full of weight, and it is pulled behind the mower, and it pushes the grass down in the direction the mower is going, so you see the stripes becuase teh light is reflecting off each blade of glass differntly because of the direction its going
