You need a business license, a name for your business, and at least one lawnmower (commercial grade), a truck, a weedwacker, a gas blower, two plastic barrels (for the grass), two gas cans, and you can advertise via the phonebook or just cards/fliers.\
My parents owned their own lawn business. All accounts, except two, were residential.
Oh, you’ll need a fertilizer spreader, a backpack sprayer, and maybe either a thatch machine or California trimmer, depending on what you want to offer for your business.

3. Get a business license. The SBA site has the application forms for your specific state. Have the right equipment, knowledge of how to use them, and your unique skills in the area — like low-cost prompt services and a toll-free phone number where people can reach you
4. Spread the word around through friends and promotional fliers. Keep an eye out for homeowners whose lawns need attention and approach them discreetly
5. Know how much to charge — no less than $20 per hour. Factor in the cost of gas, oil, and add 30% to cover your taxes and insurance. This will guarantee a good profit after all costs
