First thing you need to do is buy insurance. Your insurance agent will be able to point you in the right direction of setting up a LLC

Robert has the right answer for you. A cash business like lawn care is really simple. Your social security # is good enuff to start out. If you hire anyone, then you have to worry about w-2s, social security etc. Not really complicated. The gov’t really wants people to start businesses. Be sure to keep every receipt and keep up with your mileage. Starting out, you will want to invest in good equipment. Equipment will make or break your business so buy the best. Good luck!

Go to and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to discuss starting your lawn care business.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.
